ESJF NEWSLETTER 9
APPROVAL FOR DESIGNATED AREA OF ST JAMES –NOW FORUM APPLIES TO BE DESIGNATED BODY
Yellow public notices are on lamp posts around St James again. Following consent from Exeter City Council to our application for the ward of St James to be the designated area, ESJF has applied for the Forum to be the designated organisation responsible for the neighbourhood plan.
It’s an essential step in the neighbourhood planning process. Consultation ends on 20 August.
All being well, our next step will be consultation with our members, associates and all residents and stakeholders in St James on the draft neighbourhood plan.
COMMUNITY LEARNING INITIATIVE
ESJF has accepted an invitation to be one of several partners in a bid for funding for learning in the Sidwell Street area. Led by Exeter College’s Skills, Support and Adult Learning Department, other partners include St Sidwell’s Community Centre, Exeter CVS, Newtown Community Association, Olive Tree Association and Exeter Community Association.
If successful in August, the funding will be used to identify and train community learning champions for digital inclusion on and around Sidwell Street. The project aims to improve access to IT through innovative, informal and intergenerational community-based learning.
A neighbourhood plan is expected to promote or improve social, economic and environmental well-being. We hope the bid is successful and look forward to following the progress of a project designed to have a positive impact on well-being in this part of St James and across into Newtown.
